Before you hit buy

That viral skincare product? Check if you’re getting the real thing — or a knockoff.

Photograph the pack. We compare its label text, claims and ingredients against every listing the community has submitted, and tell you what it resembles.

Your first 5 checks are free — full verdict and evidence, no account and no card.

Where we draw the line

What we don’t do

  • We don't take money from brands to change a verdict.

Brands can claim their page and get monitoring alerts. They cannot edit a score, remove a look-alike, or buy a better label.

  • We never call a marketplace listing verified.

A verified link means we confirmed the brand's own domain. A seller badge on a marketplace is that marketplace's claim, not ours.

  • We don't accuse anyone of counterfeiting.

We measure how closely packaging, wording and ingredients resemble each other. Authenticity is something only the brand can confirm.

  • We don't hide what we couldn't see.

If the ingredients panel isn't in the photos, the result says so instead of quietly scoring without it.

Why I built this

I got tired of wasting money on products that did nothing

I’ve seen so many interesting products online that I couldn’t wait to try. The before-and-afters look amazing, so I order, wait, open the box excitedly and start using it. Then I’m two or three weeks into a skincare product and there’s no change at all.

That has happened to me more than once, and every time it was money straight down the drain. Nobody wants to waste their money. So I built Dupe Detective: when you’re unsure whether what you’re about to buy is the real thing, there’s finally somewhere to go for an answer.

Dupe Detective is the answer I wanted before I hit buy: photograph the pack, see the evidence, and decide with your eyes open — starting with skincare and beauty.
